Caroline Duncan Tarantini - Artist, Entrepreneur, Designer, & Instructor
Karealine was created as an outlet for all my creative ventures.
Tell us about you.
I am a 26 year old graphic design student who moved to the country. I have been an artist since I was in elementary school, so art is my life passion.
Apart from creating things, what do you do?
Last year I opened my own art studio, Olio Studio, LLC in Lake City, SC. I teach pottery, mosaics, fiber art, printmaking and much more. I will also get to create my own art and have other local art for sale. My other hobbies include playing guitar, hiking, antiquing, thrift store shopping, and playing with my adorable Australian Shepard named Walker.
What inspires you?
Old, discarded things. I always find new uses for old things, or ways to fix them up so they are new. I feel that if I can find a use for it then it's not trash.
Who influences your art?
My mom. She is very inventive and creative and passed it along to me. She's crazy at times but that is when you come up with the best ideas.
When did you first know that you are an "artist"?
Well it was in middle school, I had been doing an art program every summer and was learning all these awesome types of art everything from ceramics to welding and I was so young. I felt so grateful and just enjoyed everyday that I got to experience art. Well I was being interviewed and the guy asked me "so as an South Carolina artist..." and when he said that phrase I realized that I was an artist. It didn't matter how young I was, just that I was creating and thinking critically about the art I was making. Ever since then I have known that my life goal is to be an artist and develop my talents and expand my knowledge and skills.
How would you describe your creative process?
It is spontaneous. I see something or think of something and then I am obsessed with it until I finish.
Where would you like to be in 10 years?
Hopefully in 10 years, Olio Studio is a booming and ever growing business where I can teach others about art and help them find their passion. Also I hope to have a successful design business doing graphic design, interior design, event planning, and fashion. As long as I am able to be creative in everything I do and enjoy my life that is all that matters to me.
